Custom Prescription Orthotics

At Parksville Physiotherapy Clinic we have been prescribing custom orthotics since 1999. Orthotics are inserts for your shoes that will help correct biomechanical problems. They can be very effective in resolving foot, ankle, knee, hip and back problems. Some of the conditions that are helped by custom orthotics include plantar fasciitis, over-pronation tendinitis, chondromalacia patella, patella-femoral pain syndrome, iliotibial band syndrome, greater trochanteric bursitis, and piriformis syndrome.

What does an Orthotic Assessment Involve?

We utilize a dynamic gait assessment. We will have you walk across a force plate which allows us to see what your foot is doing while in motion. This provides us with more information about what may be the cause of your problem compared to a static standing assessment. We will also perform a biomechanical assessment which involves observing and palpating your foot to gather more information as we determine what specific features you will require on your custom prescription orthotics. We will cast your feet if your extended health plan requires it.

The orthotic lab we use is Footmaxx. We have been very pleased with the quality and design of their orthotics. They are leaders in the research of foot biomechanics which enables us to provide the best orthotic to help optimize your walking, running or sporting lifestyle. Footmaxx orthotics are available in different styles to enable them to be worn in a variety of footwear including dress shoes, running and walking shoes, skates, ski boots and soccer cleats. In addition, Footmaxx can customize the orthotic so that it replaces the footbed of a variety of sandals including NAOT and Drew.

Youth Outgrowth Program

Footmaxx is offering patients, who are 13 years or younger, a free replacement pair of orthotics if they've outgrown their current orthotics within 12 months. Talk to your physio to find out if your child is eligible for the Youth Outgrowth Program.

Orthotic coverage

If you have an extended health plan, you may be eligible for reimbursement for all or part of this fee. Please bring your extended health plan card with you on your first visit. We may be able to bill your plan for you for the orthotics assessment only.

We do not bill orthotics directly; we will provide the mandatory paperwork for your plan to submit for reimbursement.
